Pretty Baby

A friend of mine is anticipating the birth of her first grandchild. She's asked me to spin up this merino-silk blend to make a special cardi. As you can see, it's just about natural, except for the hints of colour in the random dyed silk.
Since it came as tops, it's spinning up quickly and easily and getting me back into rhythm before I look at some of the spinning challenges I still need to tackle for my Spinning Class folio. And no, don't mention the word procrastination . . .

How pretty! Are you plying it with itself? It should make an extra special cardi for your friends first grand-bubby.

How exciting to see the wonder of formation of substance from fluffy fleece to yarn that will be knitted into a garment - it's deeply moving and taps into primal/tribal stuff again as a member of this emerging child's community is contributing to his or her's arrival. Thank you.

thanks--that sense of primal craft and community is somewhere at the heart textile work for me. As for the technicalities--we only have 100g, so I'm going to ply it with plain merino. That will give my friend 200g to play with. Also it will stop the subtle colours being mixed with each other.
