Play Day

Yesterday I took myself off for a much needed play day. I went to the Bunny Farm for the monthly spin-in. It's been way too long since I got there.
It being St Patrick's day hadn't made much of an impact on me, but when I arrived I couldn't help but notice. Charly had prepared a delicious variety of green food--for the humans not the bunnies. And when I asked for a glass of water it was also coloured green.

I'm almost sure the colouring was flavourless, but it was hard to convince myself of that because the colour was so intense!

I came home with a few little bonuses which I will blog about later.

Flower Play

My friend L and I have been investigating her friend H's flower brooch for a while now. We've also been looking for an afternoon to enjoy some crafting together. Yesterday was the day. There are countless flower tutorials available on line. I found this one for a camelia. I like the way the stitching down the centre of each petal gives real depth.

The fabric is from a wool-flannel jacket I found at an Opp Shop years ago. A button from my button jar and a handful of seeds beads added some more depth and sparkle. By the time we'd made three it was getting too dark to take a really good photo. And our variations make it look quite un-camellia like, but interesting enough to be worth the time and effort. I may even play with the ideas and make a few more.

Exploring the Egg

I managed to get most of my set homework for Friday's class done on the weekend. That gave me time to play. The idea of the egg has stuck with me. I decided to give my imagination a bit of help and constructed an egg-shaped spiral out of beading wire.
Looking at the 3-D form in reality made it easier to explore the lines which might represent it--especially when the form was already indicated by what is essentially a line. The shadows are something else again. And of course the wire is three dimensional, so reflections off the curved surface add another layer of complication.

Pink, Pink, Pink!

I'm playing with the idea of a little girl's floor rug / quilt. I have some pink chenille as well as these corduroys: There are also some pink flannels looking for a home. I guess the different textures are part of the attraction. This pic was taken while I was asking myself whether the duller pink colour--at the top right--goes with the others. I think the answer is No!

The next question to answer is how hardy do I want this project to be? The corduroy will take a fair bit of punishment without complaining, whereas the flannel needs a bit more consideration. Then again distressed flannel does look pretty good. Hmmm . . . I'm not in a hurry so I'll just let those sit together until it becomes clearer.
