Finishing off the wire is one challenge--I thought I might add some freshwater pearls at that point. Getting the balance right between the wire and the softer fibre is also on my mind. I think I'll try smaller needles for the wire as my next step. For now it's sitting on my kitchen table and available for contemplation. Meanwhile I've finished off a couple of pairs of more conventional wristies and another knitted neck roll in the same purple wool-silk and a matching handspun merino.

Experimenting
I've been making a few pieces for my stall on Saturday. I have a good base still after the Mothers' Day Market at the Neighbourhood House, but I like to always have some recent pieces on a stall. It keeps me feeling fresh and engaged with the process. This one won't be on the stall. It's still in the development stage. Working with Wire
I like working with wire. To me it's an extension of my textiles and a way of giving more structure to some of my work. I bought myself a gizmo at the Craft Show the other day to help me with my wire. I do love gizmos and this one is actually technically called a gizmo: 
The mechanism is remarkably simple. I've been tempted to buy it before, but was put off by the price. I'm not very good at remembering numbers, so I can't tell you whether the price last weekend was lower than usual, or if I was just in the mood to hand over the cash. Whatever! I bought it.
Yesterday I picked up a couple of beading magazines. What did I find in one of the feature articles? Yep, some beautiful coiled wire work by Darius Q Seeto. So I have a bit more inspiration to go with my gizmo.
Today I do have a list of things to get done, and playing with coiled wire is not on the list. I think I can solve that little dilemma by making the wire work a reward for accomplishing some of my other tasks. Now: a coffee, clear the sink and on to my list.

Lace Wing Lamp
My friend A's house is perfectly situated between my place and the Guild. Often on a weekend I will break the trip with a coffee and catch up there--not that it's such a long trip, but it's nice to have two benefits from the one bit of travel. Yesterday was Sunday Spinners at the Guild: a very informal group which provided me with just the gentle motivation I needed to get one more sample done for my folio. On my way home at A's I caught sight of this lovely little lamp on her mantlepiece. 
It's made from wire and cloth and designed to hold a candle--very simple and effective. It reminded me of the lacewing I photographed last year. At the time I was playing with the idea of lace knitting or crochet. Now I've just added the thought of wire to that little file in my head. The conversation jumped from admiring the lamp to the usefulness of lacewings for keeping down the aphid population . . . and we went out the back to admire A's vegie patch, which is doing really well . . . just one more little bit of beauty to fill my mind.
